Capsicum Chicken

  • 1/2 kg chicken, washed and cut into medium sized pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 big capsicum, cut into big pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsps tomato sauce/ tomato puree
  • 1 tsp red chilli sauce
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 tbsps oil

For marinade:

  • 1 tbsp curd/yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • salt to taste


  1. Marinate chicken with ingredients under marinade and place in refrigerator for 2-3 hrs.
  2. Heat half of the oil in a cooking vessel, add the chopped garlic,saute for a minute.Then add onions and fry till transparent.
  3. Add the capsicum and saute for 3 mts. Turn off heat, remove and keep aside.
  4. In the same vessel, add the remaining oil, add the marinated chicken and cook. When the chicken is half cooked add one fourth cup of water and cook till chicken turns soft and excess gravy is evaporated.
  5. Now add the 3 sauces.  Add the sauteed vegetables,  prepared earlier,  and stir fry for a minute.  Turn off heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or rotis.
